Colombia Finca San Rafael

Some months ago we held a fairly large cupping of single plantation coffees from Colombia. When we went to our top pick it had already been sold, and we moved on to our second selection, La Alondra. The exporter that we were working with contacted us about a month later to advise us that a small amount of the original coffee, Finca San Rafael, was available; we recupped it to validate our original impression and thereafter bought it.

Colombia Finca San Rafael is a small, family owned farm located in Concordia, Antioquia in southwestern portion of Colombia. Altitude of the farm is between 5750 and 6100 feet. Production is 230 to 250 bags of coffee, which is less than one full container.

The coffee is grown from the Caturra varietal, is traditionally fermented and dried using wet method processing. They are involved in a number of social initiatives and are environmentally aware, recycling as much as feasible and making extensive use of compost.

Cup Characteristics: A very complex, high grown coffee with notes of tamarind, tangerine citrus and dark red fruit.
