El Salvador La Lainez
Cup of Excellence

El Salvador La Lainez is the Cup of Excellence winner #6. We are overstocked on this wonderful coffee and have decided to sell it now for $12.99 per pound, a tremendous bargain for a coffee of this caliber. Take advantage of this short-lived opportunity.

The Cup of Excellence held the International Competition in El Salvador. During the course of five days, the international jury cupped and rated all of the lots of coffee submitted by the farms that were selected by the National Competition to go forward. At the end of day five, thirty-six lots were advanced to Cup of Excellence coffees! These thirty-six lots were auctioned to roasters worldwide on June 5th. The bidding was frantic; at the end of the day, we were the successful bidders of La Lainez, the #6 coffee from El Salvador for 2008. The international jury scored the coffee 89.31; we scored it a collective 90.75 in our blind cuppings of the auction lot El Salvadors.

El Salvador La LainexLa Lainez is a relatively small farm of about 40 acres. It is located at the top of “Cerro El Tigre” (Tiger Hill) in the Tecapa-Chinameca Mountain Range. It is about 4900 feet above sea level. The farm is owned by the Ginjaume family; they have been coffee farmers for the past three generations. The farm is dense, having over 700 trees per acre. The trees are between 30 and 60 years old. The farm’s annual production is 47 sixty-kilo bags. The lot of COE coffee is 20 bags.

The coffee is 100% bourbon varietal and is washed and sun-dried. We received the unroasted, green coffee in vacuum packaging, done at origin by the Cup of Excellence. It has remained in these original foil bags until we open them just prior to roasting. The coffee is perfect condition.

Cup Characteristics: In the cup, this wonderful coffee is very bright and crisp, with lemon-like acidity. It is extremely well balanced, possessing hints of apple and melon with chocolaty body and a long, pleasantly sweet aftertaste. Clean and delicate, La Lainez is a truly outstanding coffee!
