Over its 45 year history, Coopain has established itself as one of the leading national and international production, processing and marketing organizations, not just of coffee, but also cocoa and derivatives, as well as other natural products. The coop aims for high quality with a socially and environmentally responsible management.

The cooperative's main offices are located in Tingo Maria in the mountainous jungle of eastern central Peru. Cooperative members are distributed between three departments (equivalent to US states): Huanuco, San Martin and Ucayali, and each one has its own cocoa and coffee warehouses and branch office. This large, active cooperative has developed several committees that manage not only the production and sale of product, but also promote the health, education and socio-economic development of the organization's members. The success of the cooperative and the value that Fair Trade provides its members can be measured by its astonishing growth - adding 1,500 members in 2 years. In recent years, they have increased their training to include all its members, 100% of whom have achieved organic certification. The coop carries certification by Fair Trade, USDA Organic, and Kosher. They employ sustainable farming practices and are committed to the sensitive use of natural resources.

The coop uses its Fair Trade and other premiums to fund various projects including The Education Committee, which was created to manage premium funds and educate cooperative members and their families on a variety of subjects including health, education and leadership. Other projects include a Family Development Committee, a Sustainable Production Project, investment in infrastructure and crop diversification.
