Rwanda Rushashi Fair Trade
Rwanda is a relative newcomer to specialty grade Arabica coffee production.
The country's bloody, genocidal civil war wrought economic and human devastation
from 1990 until 2003, when international assistance and political elections
brought some degree of stability to the country. Coffee crop production is helping
this country regain stability while reintroducing a quality coffee..
Fair Trade Rwanda Rushashi is from the Abakundakawa cooperative, which was
established in 2004 and is certified Fair Trade. The coffee is the product of
many smallholders from the Rushashi region, grown at an altitude of about 6000
feet above sea level. The varietal is washed Arabica Bourbon finished with sun
drying. The Abakundakawa cooperative is helping to improve the lives of the
1700 smallholder coffee farmers (coop members) in the Rushashi region.

medium body and a clean, lively flavor in keeping with the character of many
